September 28th marks the birthday of Confucius, commonly referred to as “Teachers’ Day” or “Confucius Day.” Picking up the school’s annual tradition from before the COVID pandemic, all the students from elementary to high school prepared various performances to show the teachers. Since this was the first year officially after the COVID pandemic that the Boys School celebrated Teachers’ Day, all the students were exuberant and elated.
Students from across all the grades gathered together outside of the Community Center to start setting up the chairs and tables. As the set-up was finished and the guests started to arrive, students excitingly ushered them to their seats. Having gotten their food, the teachers and parents relaxed and enjoyed the performances put on by the students.
At 11:15 A.M., once all the teachers and students were settled into their seats, the emcees announced the start of the event. The first performance was by the elementary and junior high school students, where they sang “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban, a remarkable song that conveys the messages of hope and overcoming, which is fitting, as that has been what the teachers have been teaching the students. Shortly after was “感恩歌” and “小蘋果” sung by the freshman class, followed by “La La La”, by Sam Smith, sang by the sophomore class.
For the juniors, however, they did a different performance. They did a skit with the theme of time travel. They reenacted the best moments from across the past years. The first half was a performance of “Static” by Still Corners by Alan Liang (10), a reenactment of the performance from the past year’s Cherishing Youth Day. The second half was William Shi’s (10) reenactment of his song from this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival.
Finally, the last performance was “我相信”, performed by the seniors, and the award ceremony for a school-wide art competition. After the applause of the audience and the bows from the students, the event sadly came to an end.
A big thank you to all the teachers and parents for all their services! Although words cannot fully express what the students feel, we sincerely thank all the teachers.
